2018 BMW i3 Concept, Review, Price and Specs

BMW, the German automaker, has announced its new 2018 BMW i3 and it is said to have a new battery pack that gives it a longer range. The battery pack to be used is the Samsung 94 Ah battery. The BMW i3 first hit the market approximately three years ago and has maintained its uniqueness by having a body reinforced with carbon fiber and an electric power train. The New i3 is packed with luxury, which is no surprise as the German automobile industry is seen as being above the rest in terms of luxury. The 2018 new BMW i3 faces stiff competition from the Tesla Model S which has over 25,000 sales in the US in 2015. The Nissan Leaf came close to the Tesla Model S with 17,269 sales; the Chevrolet Volt PHEV came third whereas the BMW i3 came fourth.


Interior and Exterior Specs

The interior of BMW i3 2018 has GPS navigation and leather seats. It will also have parking assistance as well as lane changer and sensors to help avoid crashing. Customers will also be able to choose the interior wood trim of their choice. One of the options will be a dark oak wood option to be paired with the eucalyptus wood dash panels.

The exterior will be made of carbon fiber which makes the body light weight. The moon roof option that was previously unavailable for customers in the US will be part of the new  BMW i3. It will have  a back-up rear camera to increase the driver’s field of view. Furthermore, it will come in a variety of colors including the pro-tonic blue that combines with black which is likely to be a favorite.

Engine Performance and Mileage

The 2018 BMW- i3 will have a new battery which has a higher capacity with a fifty percent increase to 33 kilowatt-hours from the current 22 kwh. This new battery can cover a range of 114 miles with mixed driving. The fuel tank is also bigger with a capacity of 2.4 gallons up from 1.9 gallons. This engine comes on once the battery charge hits 6.5 percent depletion. The total range is expected to be much larger than that of the current model. The 2018 BMW i3 has an electric motor mounted at the rear which produces 170 horsepower and 184pound-feet of torque. This allows it to have a 0-60 time of seven seconds. It has Wi-Fi connectivity that allows the driver to monitor charging without being necessarily present.

Price and release date

The 2018 BMW i3 is expected to be released in Germany towards the end of 2017 though no official release date has been given. It is expected to retail at $43,395 U.S. dollars before tax.
